Aberdeen, Scotland — 11 April 2026

Terry McDermott, Jim Leighton MBE, John Hewitt, Neil Simpson, Paul Lawrie and Richard Gordon will record backing vocals at Captain Tom's. Five fans can join them.
This is not something that happens every day. It is not something that has ever happened before.
Terry McDermott, the Pitmedden-raised, New Orleans-based singer and NBC's The Voice runner-up, has already recorded his lead vocals for Two Stars On Our Chest at the studio of Grammy Award-winning producer Justin Armstrong in the United States. The song, written by Finn Moray creator David Sheret, celebrates Aberdeen FC's immortal 1983 European double trophy-winning side. It is the unofficial anthem of a team that put a city and a club on the map of world football.
Now McDermott is flying back to Scotland to record the backing crowd vocals at Captain Tom's Recording Studio in Aberdeen. And he will not be alone.

"I always wanted to have the fans involved. That was the thing that excited me most. But when David told me the legends had agreed to sing on it too, that was the cherry on top. To have Jim, Simmy, John, Paul and Richard in the studio alongside the fans, all singing on this song together, that is something really special. This song belongs to the Dons."
"This is what Finn Moray is about. We write songs about places and people, then we bring the community into the music. Two Stars On Our Chest is a song about Aberdeen FC's greatest achievement, and now the legends who were part of that achievement, together with some of the most recognisable Dons fans in the country, are going to sing on it. And five fans from the community will join them. That is the model. That is the compact."
Working alongside McDermott at Captain Tom's will be five figures whose names are woven into the fabric of Aberdeen FC and Scottish sporting life.
Jim Leighton MBE stood between the posts for Aberdeen and Scotland across two decades. He won the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup in 1983, earned 91 caps for Scotland, and is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers the country has ever produced.
Neil Simpson was part of the engine room of the 1983 side. A tenacious, intelligent midfielder who gave everything for the club, Simpson played over 300 games for Aberdeen and scored the opening goal in the 1983 Scottish Cup Final. His autobiography, Simmy: Tackling Life from Aberdeen to Fergie, is available now.
John Hewitt wrote himself into history with the winning goal against Real Madrid in the 1983 European Cup Winners' Cup Final in Gothenburg. That single header remains one of the most celebrated moments in Scottish football.
Paul Lawrie OBE MBE is the 1999 Open Champion and a two-time Ryder Cup player for Europe. A proud Aberdonian and lifelong Dons supporter, Lawrie's Paul Lawrie Foundation has already adopted Two Stars On Our Chest as its official anthem.
Richard Gordon is one of Scotland's most respected broadcasters. A BBC presenter and commentator who has covered Scottish football for decades, Gordon is a lifelong Aberdeen supporter and has been central to the Two Stars On Our Chest story from the very beginning.
The Aberdeen FC Community Trust has also committed to the session, selecting a number of long-standing AFC stalwarts and staff to join the ensemble alongside supporters. This is a genuine community effort, built from the ground up.
"We are delighted to be involved," said Peter Davidson, Chief Executive of the AFC Community Trust. "Having Jim working within the Trust helped us help Finn Moray, Terry, the Paul Lawrie Foundation. We all came together to help each other. That is what we need more of."
A special word of thanks goes to Ally Begg, whose support through his podcast AB TV has been a key part of making this happen. Ally has championed the Finn Moray project from the early days, giving it a platform and an audience when it mattered most. He was instrumental in making Two Stars On Our Chest known to Terry McDermott and championed him singing the song. His belief in what we are trying to do has been invaluable.
Ally would have been at the recording session himself, but his career as a football commentator is skyrocketing in Germany and he will be in Munich on the day; ironically, of all the cities in the world. So he cannot make it. But his fingerprints are all over this, and we are grateful.
The song was also the subject of a memorable April Fool before McDermott was announced as the singer. Dons legend Willie Miller MBE told Richard Gordon, with a completely straight face, that he was the singer of Two Stars On Our Chest. Willie has a great sense of humour and did a fantastic job playing it straight and serious. You can watch the clip below.
And now the part that could involve you.
Five lucky Aberdeen FC fans will win the chance to join Terry McDermott, Jim Leighton MBE, Neil Simpson, John Hewitt, Paul Lawrie and Richard Gordon at Captain Tom's Recording Studio in Aberdeen on Monday 18 May 2026 to sing on the backing vocals of Two Stars On Our Chest.
Your voice. On the record. Permanently cemented into this song alongside the legends of Gothenburg, an Open Champion, a broadcasting icon, and one of the most distinctive rock voices Scotland has ever produced.
This is the chance of a lifetime.
