Finn Moray is proud to reveal that the singer of Two Stars On Our Chest, our tribute to Aberdeen FC's immortal 1983 European triumph, is Terry McDermott.

After our April Fool featuring Dons legend Willie Miller MBE and legendary broadcaster Richard Gordon, we can now confirm the real voice behind the song. It is a voice with north-east roots, international stature and a proper red heartbeat.

Terry McDermott, the Pitmedden, Aberdeenshire-raised singer now based in New Orleans, first came to prominence as the vocalist of Driveblind, the Aberdeen band who went to America and signed a major record deal with Geffen Records. He went on to reach a major American audience as runner-up on Season 3 of NBC's The Voice. He has also recently posted on social media that he will be returning to the programme this year.

This is not just a strong vocal choice. It is the right man for the song. Terry is a huge Dons fan, has real affection for the club, and brings the kind of power, honesty and emotion this song demands.

As announced last week, Two Stars On Our Chest has also been adopted as the official anthem of the Paul Lawrie Foundation, bringing together two north-east names bound by pride, community and giving something back. The Foundation was established by Paul Lawrie OBE MBE, the 1999 Open Champion and two-time Ryder Cup player for Europe.

The thread running through all of this is the community of well-known Dons fans and legends. Richard Gordon has been central to the whole thing. Ally Begg supported us right at the beginning. It was Ally, the former Bad Boys Inc pop star, AFC podcaster and sponsor presenter, who brought Terry McDermott and David Sheret together again and helped turn a shared feeling into a real collaboration.

Now, with Willie, Paul and Terry onboard, together with Ally and Richard, Two Stars On Our Chest carries the backing of elite professionals from very different worlds who all understand what Aberdeen FC and the Dons community means. Between them, they have performed, competed and operated at the highest level on national and international stages.

"It's fantastic to sing Two Stars On Our Chest. I'm a Dandy through and through, and I used to work at the club, so to be asked to sing a song about Aberdeen's greatest era means a huge amount to me. There's pride in that story, there's emotion in it, and I wanted to do it justice. To be part of Finn Moray and what this project stands for makes it even more special. I've heard the other featured artists and they're brilliant, so if there's anything I can do to help them along the way, I'm all in. We all need to give back a bit more."

"All the guys involved so far on Two Stars, like me, love Aberdeen FC. Richard has been central to the whole thing, and Ally backed us from the very start. Now, with Willie, Paul and Terry onboard, we've got an eclectic mix of elite professionals and artists who understand the Dons community and who've all performed at the highest international level. That matters to us. It gives this song real weight and to have Terry singing it is massive. He's a brilliant singer, a proud north-east man and a proper Don. For me personally, Driveblind are still and will always be one of my favourite bands, so it's awesome on every level."

From Pitmedden to New Orleans via The Voice

Terry McDermott grew up in Pitmedden, a village in the Formartine area of Aberdeenshire. He became the vocalist of Driveblind, the Aberdeen band who went to America and signed a major record deal with Geffen Records. The band comprised Terry McDermott (vocals), Nick Tyler (lead guitar), Jack Morrice (bass guitar), Dave Nicholson (keyboards), Dave McKay (drums) and Cameron Taylor (rhythm guitar).

After relocating to New Orleans, Terry auditioned for Season 3 of NBC's The Voice in 2012, where he was coached by Blake Shelton and finished as runner-up. His performances of rock classics won over millions of American viewers and established him as one of the most distinctive voices to emerge from the show.

He has continued to perform and record in the years since, building a loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic. His roots, however, remain firmly in the north-east of Scotland.

A Song That Celebrates An Incredible Moment In History

Two Stars On Our Chest is about memory, belonging and the extraordinary fact that a club from Aberdeen climbed to the top of European football. But it is also about more than football. It is about what a place can still produce when talent, loyalty and pride pull in the same direction.

That is why this matters. This is not nostalgia dressed up as content. It is a living project, backed by people who've carried this region onto national and international stages and who still understand the value of giving something back.

This is a song for the greatest era in Aberdeen FC's history. For the support. For the memory. For the two stars that still shine above the badge.

The Wider Picture

Terry McDermott is the fourth featured vocalist to be announced for AON: THE GATHERING, joining Adele Henderson (Aberchirder), Rhuaridh McHardy (Netherley) and Lisa Manson (Shetland). More names will be revealed shortly.

Finn Moray is an initiative set up by David Sheret following the loss of his father in 2025. Its purpose is to create songs with meaning, uncover and support emerging talent, and help good causes rooted in the communities that inspire the music.

Your Chance to Sing on the Record

There is one more thing. And it could involve you.

Terry is currently in New Orleans laying down his lead vocals for Two Stars On Our Chest with his producer Justin Armstrong. During the sessions, Terry and Justin came up with an idea that we think is brilliant: ten Aberdeen FC fans, selected by draw, will sing on the backing vocals of the final recording. The backing vocal session will be recorded at Captain Tom's in Aberdeen.

We are running this competition in partnership with Ally Begg's AB TV, the number one Aberdeen FC supporters' channel. To enter, you need to do two things:

How to Enter

  1. Buy AON: THE CALL — the debut Finn Moray album. Available as a physical CD or digital download from our shop.
  2. Subscribe to AB TV — Ally Begg's YouTube channel. Subscribe here.

Once you have done both, let us know you are interested by emailing [email protected] with the subject line "Two Stars Backing Vocals". Your name will be entered into the draw. Ten winners will be selected and invited to Captain Tom's studio in Aberdeen to record their part on the final track.

Entries close at midnight on Wednesday 30 April 2026. Do not miss this.

This is not a gimmick. This is a real recording session in a professional studio, on a song that carries real weight, with your voice on the finished record alongside Terry McDermott. Ten fans. One song. One city. One moment. The draw closes on 30 April 2026. So what are you waiting for?
