Two Stars is an unashamed homage to Aberdeen FC, especially to Sir Alex Ferguson and the extraordinary team of 1983. I've been a Dons fan all my life, and that era remains something magical. You'll understand why the Darvel result felt like a Wham Bar; mostly bitter, with just a hint of sweet (see The Shadow of the Hill). But the Dons are my first love. And this track is for them.
Back in the 80s, Aberdeen was a modest-sized club in comparison to the giants of Europe. But under Sir Alex, it became a powerhouse. They didn't just compete with the best, they beat the best. The team conquered Scotland, lifted the European Cup Winners' Cup in Gothenburg, and then went on to beat the European champions in the Super Cup. No frills. No excuses. Just belief, hard work, great players and total commitment.
This song is a bar-room boogie by design. It's meant to move. It's meant to rock. But beneath the energy, the lyrics speak to what made that era special, absolute focus, fearless ambition, and a refusal to listen to the doubters. Just cross the white line and go right after them. That was the Ferguson way.
'Two Stars' is also a thank you. To Sir Alex, for his vision. To the Donald family, for backing something bold. To the people behind the scenes at Pittodrie, the staff, the sponsors, the phenomenal players, and most of all, the fans, who followed their club across Scotland and Europe with pride.
It hasn't always been glory days since, but the Scottish Cup win in 2025 showed the spirit is still there. It never left. Aberdeen remains a special club, full of brilliant people who live and breathe it.
Special times. Special team. Special club. And for me, this song is a celebration of that legacy. Long may it last.

Verse 1
They called us plucky, called us small,
a little club who'll win naff all.
"Stay in your lane," the headlines read,
while others chased the cups instead.
But something stirred behind the scenes,
a man with fire, a team with dreams.
Chorus
We were told no… your place,
to bow to power, to give up faith.
But we stood tall, let them blab away,
the Northern Lights showed us the way.
No crown was handed, no easy quest.
Sir Alex gave us spirit, and two stars on our chest.
Verse 2
We learned to fight with boots and will,
no fancy pitches, just beach and hill.
We beat the odds, we played with heart,
we'd find their weakness, then tear apart.
Refused to listen when they put us down,
we'd shout our name whilst we took our crown.
Chorus
We were told no… your place,
to bow to power, to give up faith.
But we stood tall, let them blab away,
the Northern Lights showed us the way.
No crown was handed, no easy quest.
Sir Alex gave us spirit, and two stars on our chest.
Verse 3
We took to Europe, bold and brave,
Scottish fire to glory's wave.
We tore through Bayern, and left them dazed,
we met Madrid with nothing caged.
Granite hearts, one badge, no rest,
we've earned those stars upon our chest.
Chorus
We were told no… your place,
to bow to power, to give up faith.
But we stood tall, let them blab away,
the Northern Lights showed us the way.
No crown was handed, no easy quest.
Sir Alex gave us spirit, and two stars on our chest.
Verse 4
Now years roll on and shirts grow old,
but stories rise that still feel bold.
The flame he lit has never gone,
it burns in red and carries on.
And when the dark begins to press,
we sing the line we won't suppress.
Final Chorus
We were told no… your place,
to bow to power, to give up faith.
But we stood tall, let them blab away,
the Northern Lights showed us the way.
No crown was handed, no easy quest.
Sir Alex gave us spirit, and two stars on our chest.
